Nicaragua 2011

Participants: 

  • 8 veterinarians, including a boarded theriogenologist, anesthesiology resident, and equine veterinary dentistry specialist 
  • 31 OSU veterinary students+ 1 public health student 

Clinics: 

  • 6 days of clinics, each consisting of: 
    • Small animal spays and neuters (dogs and cats) 
    • Small animal wellness exams 
    • Large animal castrations (horses and pigs) 
    • Large animal wellness exams, including equine dentals 
    • Farm calls 
    • Four student research projects 
  • 1 community seminar consisting of: 
    • Public health interactive presentation on zoonotic diseases
    • Flea/Tick Prevention presentation with 1 year supply of preventative provided for all participants sponsored by Summit

    • 21 cats treated, including 3 spays and 17 neuters

    • 19 pigs treated, including 5 castrations 
    • 6 cattle, 6 goats, and 1 donket treated, plus an additional 40 animal seen on farm calls 
    • 129 returning patients! (77 small animal patients, and 52 large animal patients)
    • 441 animals seen in total!
