Our guest speaker for the week 6 meeting was Julie McGuire, M.S., R.D.,L.D, the dietetic internship director at OHSU. The OHSU internship offers two paths, the DI and the masters/DI-combined program. The Dietetic Internship is an 11-month program involving class and rotations. The pass rate for the RD exam is 98% and 99% of the new RDs get employment within 1 year after finishing. Annually, OHSU accepts 8-12 people into their Dietetic Internship program.

The masters/DI program is two years and much more rigorous than the 11 month DI. The pass rate for the 8-12 annually accepted master’s students in 100%. By the end of the two years, students receive their DI and a master’s degree in science in clinical nutrition.

Julie’s advice is to stay engaged by volunteering, getting nutrition related experience and staying involved in long-term projects to show commitment!
