Interested in becoming a BDC officer? Excellent! Without student officers, the BDC could not continue to exist and as current officers graduate or otherwise move on. Please see below for the basic responsibilities of each officer position to get a feel for what you would be most interested in.

Because the BDC is an OSU-sponsored organization, all officers must be students at OSU.

All officers Attend weekly or semi-weekly meetings (depending on what needs to be done) to discuss and plan for the club, plus come to dances. Various  tasks like helping at the sign-in table, helping set-up and tear-down for weekend dances.

President Conducts all business with OSU officials, delegates the various responsibilities that don’t fall to any particular position, and keeps track of club responsibilities/plans, etc. Requires organizational skills and familiarity with the workings of the BDC.

Vice President Main communication point between the BDC and other OSU clubs. Manages inter-club relations and helps make the OSU dance community mesh well (eg: not having time conflicts within dances). Some familiarity with the other OSU dance clubs would help.

Treasurer Manages the club’s MU finance account, fills out purchase requests for renting space, and is in charge of the cash box for each paid dance.

Secretary Keeps notes during officer meetings and is in charge of decorations at weekend dances. Purchasing decoration materials (given a certain budget), leading decoration setup.

Head (senior) safety officer Manages all the signed waivers and update the waivers each year. Organize all the other safety officers.

Safety Officers There are always multiple safety officers in charge of making sure people have signed liability waivers and that they follow the floor rules.

Public Representatives The PR office is often broke in three different positions; one for web-based communication (facebook/email), one for posters, and one for web design. They don’t necessarily need to be separate, however.

Web - Manage the facebook page and mailing list

Print - Make posters for weekend dances and manage the bulletin board

Web design - Update and manage the website

Head (senior) DJ The head DJ’s job is to organize the DJ schedule for the term, organize Music Planning Parties for paid events, and talk with the club about things to do with the music.

DJ The duty of a DJ is to put together playlists for Wednesday nights and man the DJ booths for their shifts.
