What is Formal Recruitment?
Formal Recruitment is a mutual selection process in which potential new members will have the opportunity to meet sorority women through different days and events. The days include SIsterhood Round, Philanthropy Round, Chapter Round, and Preference Round. The events of Formal Recruitment conclude with Bid Day.
When is Formal Recruitment?
Panhellenic formal sorority recruitment at Oregon State will take place during the first and second weeks of fall term, starting Thursday October 3rd and end with Bid Day on Tuesday, October 8th.
What Sororities participate?
All eleven Panhellenic sororities participate in formal recruitment, and our 1 Associate Member sorority will not be participating in formal recuitment, but will be having their own recruitment process in the fall.
What is the Panhellenic Council?
The Panhellenic Council is a council for all of the National Panhellenic Conference sorority chapters on campus. This council serves as the governing body for all NPC chapters on campus and organizes the recruitment process.
What is a Potential New Member?
A potential new member is a woman who is eligible to participate in recruitment.
What are Gamma Chi's?
Gammas Chi's are Panhellenic women who have disaffiliated from their chapters for the week of Formal Recruitment. They act as guides for the women going through recruitment.
The academic requirement to join a Panhellenic sorority varies by each chapter. Please refer to the individual chapter profiles for GPA requirements for each chapter.
Yes, everyone has an equal opportunity to go through recruitment. There are plenty of students who are not first year students that go through recruitment and enjoy sorority life.
Letters of Recommendation are letters written by an alumna of the chapter that profile a potential new member. Letters of Recommendation are optional for Panhellenic recruitment. If you would like to send a Letter of Recommendation for Panhellenic Fall Formal Recruitment, please mail your letter directly to individual chapter presidents or recruitment chairs as Fall 2019 draws closer. Addresses can be found on the chapter profiles.
Women submitting letters of recommendation may also submit them through their national websites.
If you are a legacy to one of the chapters on campus, please note that in your formal recruitment registration.
Each chapters costs are different. Specific break downs of how much each chapter costs can be found in the financial summaries tab and will be given in the information packet at orientation.
The Panhellenic Council chapters cannot ensure there will be space available to live in the chapter houses after recruitment is complete. Recruitment does not take place until the first and second weeks of classes and students must have a place to live for the year and should not plan on moving into chapter houses after recruitment is complete.
Panhellenic by-laws only require students to be an admitted degree-seeking student at Oregon State University or participating in an Oregon State University duel-degree program with all schools recognized by the University. However, each Panhellenic chapter differs on the amount of credit hours that must be taken on the Corvallis campus in order to be eligible for new membership in their chapter.
